The incoming Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah sees an emphasis on sensitisation as the next step in the war to improve sanitation in Ghana.

Speaking to Citi News, Mrs. Dapaah said she is upbeat about her re-assignment from the Aviation Ministry.

According to her, she is ready to provide the needed leadership for the sector to champion the dream of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa by the year 2020.

“I am quite familiar with the terrain and I believe we need to sensitize all of us to make sure we take care of our environment, take care of our surroundings and be always aware that we need to keep Ghana clean.”

“It is a clear mandate that His Excellency has tasked me with and I believe I will have a good team to work with so I am all ready to provide the best leadership for this sector,” Mrs. Dapaah said

She swapped roles with Joseph Kofi Adda in President Nana Akufo-Addo’s first ministerial reshuffle.

The Sanitation Ministry portfolio was introduced by President Akufo-Addo amid his pledge to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa by the end of his tenure in office.

Ghana’s problem with filth is well documented with many describing as plastic waste is noted as a significant sanitation problem nationwide.
