My life is under threat – Let My Vote Count Convener

The Convener of pressure group Let My Vote Count Alliance, David Asante has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over threats on his life.

According to him, he received a telephone call on March 16 from an unknown person who threatened him that he would be killed the same way as the late MP J.B Danquah Adu was murdered.

“The person called and told me he has been hired by some persons in the New Patriotic Party to kill me because of the pressure I and my group continue to pile on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei. He said he worships with me at Dome Lighthouse Church and will finish me off very soon”, David Asante told Kasapa News in an interview.

He was confident the police will do a good job at finding and bringing to book the unscrupulous person who wants to harm him for undertaking a lawful course in deepening Ghana’s democracy.

Let My Vote Count Alliance has in the past one year been on the Electoral Commission’s neck vigorously campaigning for the compilation of a new voters register, insisting the current electoral roll is fraught with anomalies which renders it not credible.

Last week, persons who were brutalized by Police officers during the group’s demonstration last year in demand of a new voters register, sued the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney General over their predicament.

The victims in a class action have resorted to the legal action in protest of the abuse of their human rights while they engaged the lawful act of demonstration.
