My father did no wrong - Issah Mobila's son

The first son of the late Alhaji Issa Mobila, Shasu Deen Mobila, has said his father did no wrong and he would consider suicide to avenge his death.

Speaking to XYZ Breakfast show host Moro Awudu on Tuesday, Shasu Deen Mobila stressed: “If Ghana were to be one of the Arab countries I would have committed suicide to avenge my father’s death”.

Seething with anger, he added: “These soldiers came to pick up my father and killed him for nothing. My father did no wrong but these unscrupulous people managed to take his life and after committing such a grievous crime they are only going to serve 10 years each in jail”.

Issa Mobila was the Northern Regional Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) until his death on December 9, 2004, two days after the general elections.

His tortured body was found brutally mutilated.

He was beaten by soldiers in the Northern Regional capital of Tamale in connection with a purpoted arms in his possession.
Mobila had been in the custody of the Tamale Police until he was transferred into military custody, where he died mysteriously.
Three soldiers, including Corporal Yaw Appiah, Private Seth Goka (pictured) and Private Modzaka Eric stood trial for his death.
A fast Track High Court in Accra sentenced the first two soldiers to 10 and 20 years in prison respectively on Monday February 18, 2013 after a seven-member jury found them guilty of manslaughter.
Private Goka whose whereabouts is unknown was sentenced in absentia.
According to an autopsy report, Issa Mobila died of damaged lungs as a result of strenuous torture which resulted from lacerations and abrasions he suffered, thus causing his ribs to fracture, thereby compromising his respiration.
