My critics just ‘hate’ me – Akanbi

Accra Hearts of Oak board member Alhaji Braimah Akanbi has said those who claim he has hogged management duties at the club are people who simply “hate” him and nothing more.

The Strategic Committee member has been heavily criticised by both fans and fellow boardroom colleagues who have likened his commitment to work as a jack of all trades and master of none. They claim he is not allowing other members assigned responsibilities and duties to work but has assigned himself all the responsibilities.

Alhaji Akanbi has been acting as managing director and head of the Strategic Committee since his immediate boss, Vincent Sowah Odotei, won the parliamentary election to represent the people of La Dadekotopon.

Reacting to his critics in an interview with Class Sports, he said: "I can tell you on authority that the backlash aimed at me is just pure hatred, if not then I have done no wrong.

"I remember years ago some criticisms like ‘Alhaji, you've become the jack of all trades, master of none’ and I replied: ‘Aren't you rather happy I'm doing all the work?’ From such statements, you could tell clearly it is just hatred and nothing more than that."

Alhaji Akanbi mentioned he would be mindful of the people around him and speak less while delivering on his assigned duties.

"The politics in Hearts of Oak is too great and definitely I have to mind my language,” he said. "…Talk to people and you hear they have some suspicions, yet they will not inform you and I see such things as an act of distraction. I see those people as detractors and I put them behind me and concentrate on the job Togbe Afede has assigned me and other colleagues."
