Newly elected Gt. Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Divine Otoo Agorhom has pledged to build bridges and let peace prevail irrespective of the ill-treatment he got from the party ahead of the internal polls.

Speaking after the polls, the newly elected chairman pledged to work with all to take the NPP a notch higher.

“Forgiveness is not a problem for me at all. Whatever they’ve done against me, I see it as something necessary to be able to toughen me for the position of chairing a party in government; is not an easy thing especially in Gt. Accra. So i believe that is God’s own way of bringing me here,” he said in an interview after the Saturday polls.

Agorhom floored his main contender, Alfred Boye to emerge the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party(NPP).

Mr. Agohum polled a total of 276 votes to defeat Boye, who secured 269 in a keenly contested race.

A third contestant Archibold Cobbina managed some 66 votes.

About 80 percent of the 21 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Greater Accra Region had earlier endorsed Alfred Boye, acting regional chairman, to become the party’s substantive regional chairman.

Mr. Boye, who was seen by many as a “tried and tested leader” couldn’t trash his opponent, Agorhom despite the overwhelming support he received from the party ahead of that polls.

Boye until now, had taken over from the regional chairman, Ishmael Ashitey – now regional minister – as the acting Greater Accra regional chairman of the NPP.
