Mahama
Bolgatanga, Nov. 28, GNA - Dr Edward Nasigre Mahama, flag bearer of the People's National Convention (PNC) has pledged equal opportunities for all Ghanaians if he is elected President in the December 7 polls. He stated this during a regional rally at Bolgatanga on Wednesday, which attracted party supporters from all the thirteen constituencies in the Region.
Dr Mahama noted that under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Governments, opportunities in most sectors of the country were based on partisan lines and said, "If you were not a member of any of the two parties you were denied other opportunities especially in terms of jobs".
He emphasized that under his Government equal opportunities would be provided for all without discrimination, but based only on merit. He indicated he would give priority to education particularly, in the area of science, mathematics and information technology to enhance development, since the world was now scientific oriented.
Dr Mahama indicated that as a medical doctor by profession, he would ensure the provision of quality and affordable healthcare to all Ghanaians and would make sure that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) covered everyone in society. He added that he would make the NHIS nationalistic in character to enable everybody access healthcare in every part of the country without any problem.
Dr Mahama indicated that he would introduce what he termed as "Health Management Organization" to ensure that every Ghanaian goes for regular check ups, to help prolong the lifespan of the people. He said he would also prevent corruption in the country, which he believed was one of the causes of poverty, alleging that most politicians and businessmen siphoned the country's monies into their own packets at the expense of the masses. He indicated that he would also construct a lot of dams and sheanut factories in the three northern regions to provide employment for the people in the area, to prevent them from migrating to do menial jobs in the southern parts of the country.
Mr David Apasera, incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, urged the electorate to vote for the party and said he had brought numerous development projects to the area during his tenure as MP, adding that the PNC would continue to improve their standards of living when voted into power. Hajia Ajara, the National Women's Organizer of the party said among all the Presidential Candidates it was only Dr Mahama who appreciates better the kind of problems facing people in the northern parts of the country, and who is capable of addressing those problems effectively. She therefore urged the electorate to vote the PNC into power to enable it to redeem them from their plight. 28 Nov. 08
