Muslims must adopt lifestyles acceptable to Islam

Takoradi, Sept. 10, GNA - Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, the Western Regional Minister, on Friday, advised Muslims to adopt lifestyles acceptable to Islam.

He gave the advice at the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr by orthodox Muslims at Takoradi.

Mr. Aidoo said Muslims should avoid cheating, stealing, backbiting, adultery and fornication as they are required during the Ramadan.

"I wish to advise all the faithful worshippers of Islam, particularly the youth, to faithfully be guided by the teachings of Islam and avoid, not only during the Ramadan period, but as a lifestyle," he said.

Mr. Aidoo said the government would continue to collaborate with Muslims in its path to national development and the first level of collaboration should be the commitment of Muslims to send their children to school.

He said several hundreds of Muslims are occupying top level public offices and they should serve as role models to the up and coming Muslim youth to realize that it is not against Islam to acquire more knowledge to meet their responsibilities in society.

He urged Muslims to take active interest in the National Census and the district level elections as their contribution towards national development.

Imam Mohammed Awal, Regional Chief Imam, said Muslims have accepted the government's call to them to send their children to school.

He, however, urged the government to ensure religious freedom and tolerance in public and private schools.

Imam Awal further proposed to the government to introduce Arabic Language and Islamic Studies as core and examinable subjects for Muslim students from the basic school level to Senior High Schools.
