Muslims fix date for Ramadan

Wa, Sept 9, GNA - Muslims have fixed Friday, September 22 as the day for the sighting of the new moon and Saturday, September 23 becomes the first day of Ramadan.

If, however, the crescent fails to appear on that day, Saturday, September 23, would be the 30th day of "Shaban" and all Muslims would be expected to begin fasting on Sunday, September 24.

Muslim leaders and scholars made this known at the close of their two-day conference that was attended from all the 10 regions of the country.

The conference said they arrived at these dates after going through reports and all shades of opinions regarding the sighting of the new moon from the Muslim community in the country. 09 Sept 06
