Murder suspect remanded in custody

Aflao, April, 7, GNA - A circuit court at Aflao on Wednesday remanded into custody, a 32-year-old man for allegedly stabbing to death a man who was among a group of people pursuing him over the theft of a fowl.

Klu Amewugah, alias Alumental, whose plea was not taken is charged with murder and would reappear on April 28. Police Chief Inspect Pius Cudjoe of Akatsi, told the court, presided over by Mr Godwin Kwasi-Kumah that Amewugah, who was being investigated over a stealing case escaped from police custody at Akatsi. He said on the night of January 22, this year, Amewugah, emerged from his hideout and stole 10 fowls from Live, a farming community near Akatsi.

Chief Inspector Cudjoe said while members of the village were close on his heels, Amewugah stabbed one George among them in the chest with a sharp object and escaped.

He said the deceased passed away at the Sogakope District Hospital, the following day and a post mortem on the body at the Police Hospital, Accra attributed the cause of his death to multiple wounds on his chest.

He said on March 10, this year, while boarding an Aflao bound commercial vehicle at spot near Akatsi, passengers on board the vehicle recognized Amewugah and arrested him.
