Multiple shops were engulfed by fire at Accra Central around the Mokola area, opposite the Central Police Station, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Videos from the scene of the incident showed traders and residents panicking and doing what they could to save their properties.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service have now been deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

A video shared by the service showed some of the structures still ablaze as firefighters tried to bring the situation under control.

According to an officer, who described the situation as “very dire”, one of its officers fighting the fire got injured.

He said that they were trying to bring the fire under control, but it was proving very difficult.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are not immediately known as emergency response efforts continue.
