Bolgatanga, May 21, GNA - Mrs. Agnes Chigabatia, a former Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, has won an international award in recognition of her humanitarian activities and contribution to national development. The "Vision African Outstanding 2010 Great Patriotic Award" was given by the Vision Africa Gold International Communication Limited, publishers of Vision Africa, which works to promote socio-economic and cultural activities in Africa.
Mrs. Chigabatia, the Upper East Regional Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), told journalists that the award was non-political. She said the award was for the entire Builsa District where she comes from, the Region and nation as a whole and not for any political party. Mrs. Chigabatia said the organization nominated from countries including Nigeria, Cameroon, Liberia and Ghana and in Ghana they were only two people who were nominated and mentioned Mr. P.C Appiah, a Member of Parliament, as the other one.
Mrs. Chigabatia said at the award ceremony in the United Kingdom, she was asked to give a lecture on the topic "Impact of Women in Governance in New Africa."
She appealed to the youth to see the award as an inspiration to them by working hard and dedicating themselves to their duties and responsibilities. She appealed to parents in the Region to concentrate on their children's education since that was the best legacy they could bequeath them.
