Moves to address adverse effects of foreign cultures

The Ghana National Commission on Culture (NCC) has designed a Community Outreach Programme to address the adverse effects of multi- foreign cultural exposures and influences on the society.

The Programme, which begins on a pilot basis, will be undertaken by the Community Youth Cultural Centre (CYCC) at Maamobi in Accra, through periodic lectures on aspects of Ghanaian cultural practices.

A statement signed by Nana Brefo Boateng, NCC Chief Director, said regular rudimentary knowledge of basic techniques in Ghanaian traditional dance forms would also be taught.

"Apart from that, there would be instructions and demonstrations in the methodology of men's traditional cloth wearing by Nana Kwaku Dua, a resource person at the Centre.

The statement invited opinion leaders and groups, including chiefs, MPs, youth associations, schools and interested individuals willing to update their knowledge and skills to contact the Director of the CYCC.
