Movement for Better Ghana embarks on demonstration in Kumasi

Kumasi, Jan. 26, GNA - Members of the Movement for Better Ghana (MBG) on Wednesday embarked on a peaceful demonstration in Kumasi to demand the immediate investigation of what they call 93misappropriation of funds" by the Kufuor Administration.

The demonstration dubbed: 93Hwehwe mu ma yen President," was aimed at putting pressure on the government to take action and prosecute alleged stealing of state funds by officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for personal use.

The demonstrators who wore red arm and head bands, urged President John Evans Atta Mills to urgently investigate the whereabouts of levies collected by the NPP government to pay the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) debts.

Mostly sympathisers of the ruling National Democratic Congress, they started the demonstration from the Centre for National Culture and marched through some principal streets of Kumasi and later converged at the Jubilee Park, where they were addressed by their leaders.

They carried placards some of which read; 93petrol hikes, Na who causam", NPP collapsed TOR", 93One man one vote in Kumasi in 2012", "where is the GH¢600 million", 93Hwehwe mu ma yen President", "NPP banza", "NPP is corrupt" and 93the law must be applied".

Mr Aubrey Mends, Chairman of MBG accused the NPP government of defrauding Ghanaians and asked the government to take steps to retrieve the monies which he said were stolen by the former officials.

He claimed that the NPP Administration diverted levies meant for the TOR debt to undertake political campaign in 2008.

He said the recent petrol hikes was the result of the refusal of the NPP government to pay the levies, resulting in huge debts hanging on the neck of TOR.

Mr Fredrick Antwi who described himself as the parliamentary candidate of the Convention Peoples Party for Suame constituency in Election 2008 stressed the need for government to sanction people who had misapplied money.

NDC should strengthen internal structures 96 Party activist Kumasi, Jan 26, GNA - Mr Osman Abdalah, Chairman of the Kumasi Metropolitan Youth Organisers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has underscored the need for the party to strengthen its internal structures at all levels country-wide.

This, he said, would help to make the party more formidable in winning Election 2012.

Mr Abdalah was addressing constituency executives of the party in the metropolis on Tuesday.

The meeting aimed at adopting effective strategies to improve on the performance of the party.

He noted that the party had won the goodwill of Ghanaians through various socio-economic programmes. The Chairman, however cautioned supporters of the NDC against complacency, power struggle, backbiting and other negative practices, which would impede the development and progress of the party.

Mr Abdalah therefore advised all well-meaning NDC activists to be focused and work harder towards the common goals and objectives of the party.

He expressed gratitude to the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Sarpong, for his commitment to the course of the party.
