Motion for injunction against festival refused

Ho, Oct. 28, GNA - A Ho High court presided over Justice Andrews Abangah Amosah on Friday refused an application by 12 chiefs from the Anlo traditional area seeking an injunction on the celebration of the this year's Hogbetsotso festival of Anlos.

The festival, which had already taken off with rituals and other programmes, will reach its climax with a durbar at Anloga on November 4. The chiefs represented by Mr Chris Ackummey, an Accra-based Lawyer, sought the court to grant an interlocutory injunction against the celebration on the grounds that it could lead to a breach of the peace. The plaintiffs, Togbe Gbordzor III, Dusifiaga of Anlo, Togbe Agbesi Awusu II, Awadada of Anlo, Togbe Azameti III, chief of Dzita in the Keta District, and others, claimed that the defendants Francis Nyonyo Agboada, said to be acting as Awoamefia, Napoleon Agboada, Registrar of the Anlo Traditional Council, and others, were not the rightful people to convene the festival.

Justice Abanga, in refusing the motion, said a similar action under the same circumstances was sought from the courts last year but was dismissed allowing for the festival to go on without any hitch.
