Mother, daughter die in accident

A MOTHER and her three-year-old daughter died on the spot when the saloon car transporting them from Accra to Tamale was involved in a fatal accident at Abofour in the Ashanti Region.

Alhaji Abu Yakubu, husband of the victim who was driving the car, an Opel Kadet with registration number GW 7040 R, also sustained serious injuries.

The police have identified the deceased as Madam Afariwa Yakubu and Abiba Yakubu.

Alhaji Yakubu and his family were travelling to Tamale, from Accra for family discussions when the accident occurred.

Chief Inspector Akwasi Ofori of the Police Public Relations Unit, said Alhaji Yakubu was allegedly driving at top speed and when he got to a spot near Abofour at 7p.m., the car skidded off the road and hit a tree.

He said some good Samaritans rushed to the scene and rescued the victims but found the woman and her daughter dead.

Chief Inspector Ofori said the people helped to rush Alhaji Yakubu to the St. Patrick Hospital at Offinso while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary in Kumasi.

In another development, three persons sustained serious injuries when a Ouagadougou bound articulated Man Diesel truck with registration number ER 1091 C collided with another vehicle at Afrancho near Abofour the same day.

The victims were rushed to the St. Patrick Hospital where they are responding to treatment.
