Mosquito: NPP’s Zongo Fund sham

NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of failing Muslim communities (Zongos) over the years, thus, lacking the moral right to promise them a Zongo Development Fund, as done by flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, recently.

Reacting to the NPP’s version of the State of the Nation Address delivered by Mr Akufo-Addo, Mr Nketia accused the Danquah-Busia-Dombo party of depriving Zongo schools of the benefits of the School Feeding Programme.

Addressing members of the NDC at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, 1 March 2016, General Mosquito, as Mr Asiedu Nketia is popularly known, also noted that the NPP failed to implement a single policy to improve the lot of Zongo communities during the eight-year tenure of ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor.

To him, the NPP only makes unfulfilled promises to the electorate, especially to those, who live in Zongos, for political gain.

Mr Asiedu Nketia said Nana Akufo-Addo should have done some soul-searching before coming out with the ambition to form a Zongo Development Fund. He asked the NPP flagbearer: “If you want to create a Zongo Development Fund, why deny the Zongo schools feeding when you were in government?”

Mr Nketia also wondered: “Why did they [NPP] insult former President Rawlings when he entered gutters to help people in Nima to clean those gutters.

“What did you do for the Zongos in all the eight years of NPP administration? Please the Zongos don’t want to be treated as people to whom projects are announced, but never get executed,” he emphasised.

Mr Nketia also questioned how Nana Akufo-Addo planned to finance the funds he promised as he only makes pronouncements without indicating how they will be done.
