Finding a way to readjust a show he had been tasked to spearhead to reflect his strengths was ideal, knowing the calibre of person he was succeeding and how ‘big’ a niche he had built for himself in the areas of politics especially, Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah explained to the committee in parliament whilst touching on his experiences as Super Morning Show Host on Multimedia’s Joy FM.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who had been working with the media at the time was made the host of the ‘Super Morning Show’, in place of Komla Dumor who had left for the British Broadcasting Cooperation after 10 years of hosting the show.

Acknowledging that his strengths were not same as his predecessor's who at the time had a strong forte on political issues, he had to realign the show to reflect his strengths.

‘At the time I assumed the role, I was taking over the shoes of a very big man, literally and figuratively; Komla Dumor who had built a very strong shoulder and commanded huge audience share in our republic and the show focused a lot on political matters and also social issues of the day. They were not exactly my strength at the time and so what we sought to do was to realign the show with areas that were also of strength to me and areas that we believed that the market gradually was shifting to focus more attention on”.

Additionally, he said, the tone of conversations at the time he took over were gradually changing from sole politics to decent forward moving conversations.

“Around that time that after a change in power under the 1992 constitution, partisan politics was beginning to tone down as conversations were getting more onto the factual side, the market was demanding more of that kind of discussions and analysis and it also played to my strength, that’s why we realigned the show to focus on that space. I think it served us well because we succeeded in winning back some high audience shares and dominating the English Market during the period which I was there.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah started off by reading the Joy business report in the mornings and Newsnight in the evenings on part-time basis on Joy FM while he was fully employed as a Treasury Analyst with British American Tobacco (B.A.T) , until the then host, Komla Dumor left for the BBC after ten years of hosting Super Morning Show. He took over after Komla Dumor and hosted the show until he moved on to pursue other academic laurels.
