More food vendors fail medical examination

Another group of 106 out of 172 food vendors medically examined at Adjabeng, in Accra have been found to be unfit to handle food.

They were also found to be carrying the same typhoid and worm infestation in their blood and stool, as was the case in an earlier group examined.

Two weeks ago, 100 food vendors were identified to be medically unfit to handle food, out of the 1,600 examined.

The screening programme, this time covers drinking bars, restaurants and hotels operators around La, Circle, Alajo, Abeka, Teshie and Nungua.

Emmanuel Akrofi Bruce, the Acting Director of Metropolitan Public Health Department of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, disclosed in an interview.

He said the affected patients were all referred to the hospitals for treatment before the issuance of the medical certificate.

Bruce warned of the dangers of selling or eating unwholesome food and advised food sellers to protect their wares against contamination from flies and dust.
