Monitor social media use by kids – Dr Dadson

A Former Head of the Department of Physics, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has appealed to parents to protect their children from the corrupt influence of the social media by monitoring their use of social media sites.

Dr. Andrew Dadson said everything must be done to ensure that they did not become poisoned by immoral and other social vices.

He said although the social media had educative lessons and benefits, there was also a down side that could make children go wayward.

This was contained in a paper Dr. Dadson presented at an annual event organized by the Church of Christ Senior High School at Adadientem in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality.

“How to become an excellent student in these challenging times” was the theme.

He said “the emergence of television with multi-channels, smart phones, I-pads, tablets and laptop computers have some benefits to society but we should accept the fact that there are negative effects as well”.

Dr Dadson said it was this reason that many schools had banned the use of some of these gadgets.

He said he found it quite disturbing that some were able to outmaneuver the authorities and smuggle them to the schools.

Dr Dadson spoke of the need for the students to be educated on the negative impact these could have on their education and to encourage them to remain focused on their studies and work hard to achieve their dreams.

Mr Cosmos Owusu-Afriyie, the Headmaster, said the school would continue to insist on discipline.
