The Chief Executive Officer of Okada Motto Ghana, Mohammed Sumaila, has expressed profound sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in the military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
In a statement issued earlier today August 7, 2025, Sumaila said the news of the incident deeply affected him, describing how it disturbed his sleep and left him reflecting on the fragility of life.
“I found myself reflecting on the fragility of life and the painful reality that even those who dedicate themselves to serving our nation can be taken from us so suddenly,” he shared.
Among the victims was Dr Edward Omane Boamah, whom Sumaila described as “a brilliant mind and devoted patriot.”
“His intellect, his clarity in argument, and his unwavering commitment to Ghana made him a figure worth listening to and learning from. To think that this is how his journey ends — it is truly heartbreaking,” he added.
Sumaila, a devout Muslim, acknowledged the spiritual dimension of the tragedy, stating that while death is ultimately God's will, the pain remains profound.
“These were young, vibrant individuals who had so much more to offer. Their absence leaves a void not just in government, but in the hearts of all Ghanaians.”
He also expressed solidarity with President John Dramani Mahama and the First Family, noting the heavy burden the President must bear in losing both his Minister of Defence and Minister of Environment in a single, devastating incident.
Further paying tribute, Sumaila recalled his personal acquaintance with Murtala Mohammed, one of the crash victims.
“A brilliant thinker, deeply religious, and proud of his northern heritage. Our shared faith and background make this loss even more personal. Ghana has lost not just leaders, but brothers,” he said.
On behalf of Okada Motto Ghana, Sumaila pledged continued support to the grieving families and called on the nation to unite in this moment of mourning.
“May their souls rest in perfect peace. And may their families find strength in the love and unity of our nation.”
