Moderate wage demands

The Minister of Employment and Social Walfere, Mr. D.S. Boateng has stressed the need for a passionate examination of wages and salaries to ensure a balance in the conflicting demands.

He noted that even though things are difficult, there is a limit to how far government can go in terms of the wage ratio and national needs. Mr. Boateng who was speaking on his return from Geneva recently where he attended the Labour International Organisation (ILO) conference expressed the hope that the current negotiations between government and the socio partners would result in an acceptable solution.

Mr Boateng, who was accompanied by a 10-member delegatiton including representatives of Trade Union Congress and the Ghana Empployers Association told newsmen that the conference with the theme "promoting employement" was a follow up to the social summit held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in March this year.
