There is simmering agitation among some students of the Kintampo College of Health over what they have described as fraudulent means by authorities to extort money and deprive them of their right to education.

This apparent dissatisfaction is as a result of some former students’ inability to access the appropriate certificates months after completing a course in B.Sc. Community Medicine and Health Programme.

According to some aggrieved students, the Ministry of Health in a publication on their website announced that the Kintampo College of Health offers a course in B.Sc. Physician Assistant, but upon completion of the course, the school presented an Advanced Diploma certificate to them.

This sudden turnaround of events, to them, is fraudulent.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb, an aggrieved student by name Joseph Bamfo said the University of Cape Coast, which is the awarding institution for their certificate, claims the school does not have the necessary accreditation for the course.

“The Ministry of Health is much aware of this accreditation issues yet they advertised on their website that Kintampo College of Health is running a B.Sc. Physician Assistant program just to mislead the general public,” he said.

He further explained that the Advanced Diploma certificate being offered by the school, even though has been accepted by some, is only a waste of their time and resources.

Bemoaning the posture assumed by the school authorities in dealing with the issue, he added that the authorities have been very rude and condescending so far in dealing with the issue.

“They’re not ready to talk to us; they sent a text message to our class representative to tell us of the development… They’ve been very rude in addressing this issue,” Joseph Bamfo said.

As part of the growing tensions, the students are threatening a legal action against the Kintampo College of Health and the Ministry of Health for misleading them into taking a course which they have not been accredited to offer.

“We raised some concerns in the course of our studies, but the authorities rubbished our concerns and kept demanding for money for extra courses and stuff… we’re raising some money to file a legal suit against the school authorities and the Ministry of Health. We want court to compel them to give us the right certificates,” he added.

GhanaWeb's effort to contact the Kintampo College of Health for their side of the story proved futile.
