Mixed reactions and expectations ahead of vote on Ada East DCE

Residents of the Ada East district have denied assertions that the current tension in the area is being caused by the presence of members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group, Invincible Forces.

There has been heightened tension in the area ahead of President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the District Chief Executive position, Sarah Dugbakie Pobee’s appearance before assembly members for another round of voting Friday, 3rd November 2017.

Many residents are of the view that members of the NPP vigilante group, invisible forces had been dispatched to the area to coerce assembly members to vote in favour of the appointee whilst others claim that some members of the party's women's wing have also been bused to the area ahead of the exercise.

A section of persons in the vicinity who have been speaking to GhanaWeb explained that the tension in the area was created by some of the assembly members who are against the endorsement of Madam Pobee, with some stating that the nominee is no pushover and thus would be difficult to manipulate.

They are however hopeful that Sarah Pobee will receive the needed votes to earn her the confirmation as District Chief Executive this time.

This would be the third time Sarah Pobee is appearing before members for confirmation to start her duties as the District Chief Executive.

The nominee failed to secure the required two-thirds of the total votes cast during the second round of voting on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, as she polled 19 out of a total of 36 votes, representing 52 percent.
