Missing woman found dead in river at Assin Akropong

A 40 year old lady has been found dead in a river this morning at Assin Akropong in the Assin North Municipality of Central Region.

The lady, Akua Kumiwaa according to investigations is a known epileptic and lives with her family close to the river.

According to the Assin Fosu district Commander Superintendent Magnus Reindorf Sam who confirmed the news to Kasapa News ‘ Central regional correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour indicated that early this morning, the family announced on an information centre about the disappearance of the lady and therefore asked the town folks to assist them in searching for the lady .

The family , he said then proceeded to the police station to lodge a complaint about the disappearance of the relative.

He added that later after the announcement in the town , a resident going to fetch water in the river , which is a source of water for the town , saw the body of the deceased floating and therefore informed the family of the deceased about it.

Superintendent Reindorf Sam indicated that preliminary investigations reveal that the woman went to fetch water early morning but was unfortunately caught by the epilepsy, leading to her drowning.

He however indicated that the police have not ruled out foul play and are therefore awaiting the autopsy report to conduct further investigations .

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu for autopsy.

Meanwhile, fear has gripped residents in the town over these ‘unnatural’ deaths.

The death happens to be the second in a spate of two weeks.

Last Sunday, a building fell on two women who were pounding fufu behind it.

One of them died instantly and the other who sustained a serious leg injury also died later at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso where she was receiving treatment .
