Miss Ghana-Canada 2001 Threatens Legal Action

"I'm still the 2001 Beauty Queen": Anita

Miss Anita Aboagye, the Miss Ghana-Canada 2001 has threatened to take the Pageant Director George Fynn and his organization to court if he does not stop the illegal acts he has been engaging in and stop defaming her name, integrity and character.

In an exclusive interview with The Ghanaian News, Miss Aboagye recountered a number of back-door schemings and illegal activities that the Pageant and its Director George Fynn have engaged in which were all directed at fixing the results of the pageant to get their favourite candidates to win. She believes that George Fynn was actually shocked to see her win and has since tried all kinds of intimidation to coerce her to give up the crown.

"But I am not going to do that. I was the top of the tops and the Judges rightly crowned me the 2001 Beauty Queen. This was amplified by the fact that when the organizers tried to fix the results and awarded the crown to the first runner-up, the Chief Judge, a respected Lawyer by profession quickly jumped on the stage to correct the mistake".

"The Pageant organizers could not stand my self-confidence and clear articulation, hence their desire to destroy me. But I am the Queen and no-one can take that from me", Anita emphasized with all confidence.

Anita recountered how Pageant Director George Fynn came to her house to intimidate her to give up her crown and trophy. She called the Chief Judge to complain and he pointed out that Fynn had no right to do that. Fynn returned the crown and trophy after a week. Since then, she says, George Fynn has engaged in all kinds of shady and illegal activities to smear her reputation in an attempt to coerce her to give up the crown.

"I was surprised to see a picture of Freda Agyei (1st runner-up) in the newspapers being paraded as the 2001 Queen at the Miss Nigeria-Canada pageant. This is completely illegal.

"My lawyers have written to George Fynn a number of times advising him to desist from engaging in those illegal acts of parading the first runner-up as Queen, stop the smear tactics, render me a public apology and the full payment of my prizes . If he fails to comply or govern himself accordingly, we will take the appropriate legal action. We are fully prepared and ready for that", Anita threatened with all seriousness.

Anita revealed that she has as at the end of November, received only half of the prizes that were promised her as the 2001 Queen. These are a three-disk cd player, a VCR, a 27" T.V and a VCR from Sharp. Other promised prizes of a Scholarship for College, a year's supply of health and beauty products and a return air ticket to Ghana have not been given to her.

Asked about the crown and sash that the first runner-up is wearing around as the Queen, Anita laughed and said that "they might have borrowed it from someone because my crown and sash that were rightly given to me on the pageant night are still with me and I am never going to give them to anyone".

Questioned about the reasons that Fynn had cited as reasons for stripping her of the crown, Anita says she informed Fynn about this before the Pageant and he raised no objection. She said that there were a lot of stuff about almost all the contestants that the Pageant organizers covered up and she does not understand why Fynn is singling her out if he has no ulterior motives.

Moreover there were no pre-written laid down conditions and behaviour guidelines that were made available to any of the contestants before the pageant. What was demanded was that contestants show respect to each other and to the organizers.

She continued, "I am doing this not only for myself but to ensure that George Fynn and his Pageant do not visit this kind of abuse on any young vulnerable persons all in the name of a pageant". When this is over I hope everyone involved will learn a great lesson".
