Minority to see Speaker over motion on a hotel

Accra, Nov. 4 GNA - The Minority on Friday said they were going to consult with the Speaker, Mr Ebenezer Begyina Hughes over the status of a motion on a hotel they claimed they had brought to the notice of Parliament.

Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, Deputy Minority Leader, was responding to a question on the status of the motion in an interview with the GNA at Parliament House.

While the Minority insists that they have tabled such a motion to generate discussions on the matter before Parliament, the Majority have brushed aside the claims by the Minority. The question of the status of the motion came up last week in Parliament when the Minority questioned what action the House was taking on the motion.

Mr Haruna Iddrisu, NDC-Tamale South, had questioned why a motion tabled by the Minority during the second meeting of the House just before recess had not been programmed on the agenda for the third meeting that opened last Tuesday.

Mr Abraham Ossei Aidooh, the Deputy Majority Leader, who had just presented the Business Statement for next week, said so far as their side was concerned no motion on a hotel had been brought before the House to enable the House to debate the matter. Ownership of the hotel, close to President John Agyekum Kufour's residence, has in recent times generated so much heat, especially in the media.

The matter is currently before the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, although the President has denied ownership of the property.

Later in an interview with the GNA, Mr Ossei Aidooh said the Majority had conducted some search and had seen no such motion, which the Minority claimed it had introduced to Parliament. He said motions were supposed to go through various processes in the Clerks' Office before it gets to the Speaker.
