Minority Rejects Fiifi Kwetey's Nomination

The nomination of Fiifi Fiave Kwetey for confirmation as Deputy Minister for Finance has met stiff opposition from the Minority, who insist that his professional integrity is highly questionable and they would, therefore, not vote for him.

The Minority contended that Fiifi Kwetey's submission at the Appointments Committee on Monday lacked factual accuracy and, therefore, he is unfit to handle such a high office of the country.

In an interview with The Chronicle at Parliament House yesterday, the Member for Akim Abuakwa South, Mr. Samuel Atta Kyea argued that Fiifi Kwetey's submissions before the Appointments Committee was a disgrace to the nation and that he did not merit the position he was vetted for. "He told the Committee that he was setting the records straight and that made him raised the benchmark.

He presented himself as an apostle of accountability who made a categorical statement that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has sold all the country's gold reserves. When he was challenged to back his claim with what he said, it turned out that he took the story from the internet. So, Fiifi Kwetey who wants to see himself as a very powerful and learned intellectual, and that the rest of us are dirty, put himself into a mess", he noted. According to him, Fiifi Kwetey should have investigated the story before making public comment on it. He was of the strong opinion that Fiifi Kwetey would best serve the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the party level rather than a deputy ministerial position of the land. "He would be better off playing his role at the NDC set up, but not with the nation's finance, it will be difficult for him", he added.

The Akim Abuakwa Legislator argued that even in the event of Fiifi Kwetey getting the nod through a secret ballot as was done to Alhaji Mohammad Mumuni, history would be made and the minority will be vindicated again. Meanwhile, Mr. Kwetey has told The Chronicle that he has put his fate in parliament to decide, since he trusted parliament to take the best decision. "I have done what was expected of me, I appeared before them, I have told them the full truth and nothing but the truth, so whatever decision that must be taken I have left in the hands of parliament," he added. Regarding the main allegation that he had lied that one Mohammed Abu in the Abuakwa South in the Eastern region has been beaten up by NPP folks and had crippled him, he said the allegation was proven by the same gentleman on Asempa FM yesterday.
