Minority Leader not satisfied with registration exercise

Sunyani, May 10 GNA - Mr. J. H. Mensah, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has expressed dissatisfaction with the on-going revision of the voters' register and called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure that registration officers are provided with enough materials.

He said this, when he toured a number of registration centres in Sunyani, Yawhimakrom, Kootokrom and New Dormaa on Tuesday to see how the exercise was progressing.

Mr Mensah said that although a number of people were eager to register, insufficient materials at the various centres he toured hindered them. Some of the registration officers said the lack of films to take pictures was discouraging the people from registering.

Mr Mensah noted that the revision of the voters' register is an important national exercise, which should not be toyed with and urged the EC to work around the clock to solve these problems.

Meanwhile, the Sunyani District Electoral Officer, Mr Baafour Wuah has given the assurance that enough materials would be sent to all registration centres by Wednesday and appealed to the electorate to bear with the Commission.
