Minority Leader dares Chief of Staff

Alban Bagbin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has dared the Chief of Staff, Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey to proceed with his suit filed against him for allegations of impropriety in the award of contracts for the renovation of the Osu Castle.

He said if the case does not come out during Parliament's ten week recess, "when Parliament resumes, you will hear from me."

Mr. Bagbin had alleged that the 1.9 billion cedis contract for the renovation of the Osu Castle was awarded to an unregistered company owned by the Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey without going through tender. Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey however denied the allegations and declared his intentions to take Bagbin to court for defamation. The Daily Graphic, which first published the allegations by Mr. Bagbin was also sued 100 million cedis but the case was settled amicably between the Chief of Staff and the newspaper.

In an interview with the "Network Herald" newspaper, Bagbin noted that although he has read about the suit against him in the newspapers, he has not been served with a copy of the writ. According to the Minority Leader, the failure or otherwise of the Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey and his lawyers to serve him with a copy of the writ might have stemmed from the fact that Parliament was in session when the issue came up and was therefore impossible to take him to court.

The Minority leader however says he expects to be served with a copy of the writ now that Parliament is on recess. He has indicated that he will still go ahead and furnish the public with the information he has if he is not issued with a copy of the writ
