Ministry?s Canteen Defies Orders

Despite the closure order given to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Canteen on Monday by the Osu Klottey Sub-Metro on health grounds, the canteen yesterday morning prepared food for sale.

However, at the time food was ready to be sold, its operators were served a notice by the Osu Klottey sub-metro to close down. When pressmen visited the canteen yesterday to find out whether it had complied with the order by the environmental health office of the sub-metro, food items such as banku and rice had been prepared for sale.

The owner of the canteen was not available at the time of the visit at about 10am yesterday, but the workers at the canteen, who said their mistress was yet to report to work agreed to abide by the closure order.

According to them, an official of the ministry was at the canteen yesterday morning to see their mistress in relation to the order.

When pressmen contacted the environmental health officer of the Osu Klottey sub-metro, Ms. Vida Nyenku, she said when she visited the canteen at about 1:30pm the operators had complied with the order and closed down.
