Mr Mustapha Hamid, the Minister of Information, has pledged the readiness of the Ministry to keep government closer to the citizenry.

He said communication remained the live-wire of every enterprise in the 21st century and that the Ministry was committed to delivering a governance system that allowed the citizenry to hold the Government accountable any day and not only during campaign tours.

Mr Hamid said this at a press conference in Ho after a two-day “Executive Retreat” of the Ministry and its key agencies to develop “team building strategies.”

He said government could not divulge itself from the people and announced that the Ministry had revitalised the “Meet the Press” series and introducing a “National Policy Summit” to involve other stakeholders and the citizenry in the governance system.

He said town-hall meetings would also be held yearly in all 216 assemblies to bring governance closer to the people.

Mr Hamid said plans were also advanced to translate major government documents such as the state of the nation address and the highlights of the budget statements into six major local languages to cover the broad section of the country.

“This is to draw everybody into governance…,” he said.
