Ministry of Education distributes books

Accra, May 6, GNA - The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, is distributing reprinted textbooks to over 13,000 primary and 6,000 junior secondary schools throughout the country to address shortcomings in the existing distribution policy.

The books, which cover English Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, are being distributed at the ratio of one textbook per pupil. A release signed by Mr Joseph K. Odom, Head of the Public Relation Department of the Ministry, in Accra on Saturday said the reprinting was made possible with support from the World Bank (IDA).

The release said guidelines have been developed and distributed to the districts to assist District Directors in making sure that the books are properly received and promptly distributed to reach the children in the classroom.

Districts Assemblies have been asked to assist pupils whose parents cannot afford to acquire a suitable satchel in which the books would be carried to and from school to prolong their life span.

Parents would also be required to replace books damaged or misplaced by their wards. The Ministry has therefore appealed to parents, teachers and the pupils to ensure the security and optimum use of the books for the development of the Ghanaian child.
