Ministry donates vehicle to GJA

Accra, Aug.17, GNA- The Ministry of Information and National Orientation on Friday donated a pick-up worth 198 million Cedis to the Ghana Journalists Association to assist in the day-to-day administration of the Association.

Ms. Oboshie Sai-Cofie, Sector Minister, who made the donation said the Ministry recognized the pivotal role the association played in the development of the country and that the media had become an indispensable tool in the affairs of the country. She said the vehicle was in fulfillment of a promise the Ministry made to the Association upon a request by the immediate past GJA President, Ms. Adjoa Yeboah-Afari.

Ms Sai-Cofie also pledged an undisclosed amount to the association as part of GJA Awards ceremony urged the members to come together to ensure the success of the association. Mr. Ransford Tetteh, President of the GJA noted the good relationship that had existed between corporate Ghana and the association and said despite the cordial relationship; the media would continue to keep an eye on corporate Ghana. "Though we are seeking help from corporate bodies, we will not shirk our responsibility of holding officials accountable. The government should not recognize us as enemies but part of the developmental process of the country".

He advised journalists not to concentrate only on political issues but all aspect of social issues to ensure a holistic reportage adding, " As we pursue those stories that sell, we should also persevere to look at other areas that are equally important". Mr. Tetteh lauded the contribution of government towards the development of the media.
