Minister says all should help salvage economy

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Moses Asaga, has called for the collective effort of all Ghanaians to salvage the country's ailing economy.

He said the politicization of the economic problems confronting the nation would not help in anyway but rather retard efforts to solve them. Speaking on "the state of the economy" at the fifth biennial delegates' congress of the youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Winneba, Mr. Asaga said, "what is important at this stage of the country's forwards match, is to join forces with the government to secure a better and lasting solution to the economic mishap since it affect all Ghanaians irrespective of their political, ethnic and religious affiliation".

He charged leaders of the youth wing to organize regular forums in their areas to enlighten the people on the state of the economy and the efforts of the government to improve it. The Minister for Communications, Mr. John Mahama, warned members of the party against selling their conscience to private print media houses and said followers of the party must exhibit greater commitment to its principles. He asked them to use their energies and time to educate the people on issues, which militate against the rapid attainment of economic emancipation. He advised media practitioners to strive to report accurately and factually to avoid public criticism and mistrust.

The Minister of Health, Professor Kweku Twum Danso-Boafo, said the government has adopted measures to ensure that doctors and Para-medical staff trained with the taxpayer's money to stay and work in the country and added that his Ministry has instituted an incentive package including in-service training for health workers particularly those in rural areas. He stressed the determination of the Ministry to thrash out differences with health workers through what he described as "the under ground dialogue system of solving industrial problems", rather than the give and take press statements. During an open forum, he said Suhum Government Hospital has been allocated an Ambulance as part of measures to solve the emergency problems of health facilities.
