Occupants of a government bungalow in Kumasi where two deadly explosives were found nearby have been evacuated. They are mainly the family of the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Andy Osei Okrah.

Personnel of the national anti-bomb squad were quickly dispatched to the deputy minister’s official residence Tuesday morning, after information went round that a bomb has been found there.

The house is close to an apartment being used as a data centre by the national security. The anti-bomb team found two objects: one at the entrance to the government bungalow of the deputy minister and the other was nearby. The team however discounted that the objects were bombs.

One of the security personnel told TV3’s Northern Sector Bureau Chief, Kofi Adu Domfeh that they were “powerful explosives”. The immediate environment was initially cordoned off but everything has now been cleared to allow free flow of traffic after the security carted away the explosives.

Some family members of Andy Osei Okrah, who were in the house at the time the explosives were discovered, were subsequently evacuated from the building, Adu Domfeh told TV3 Midday Live.

It is not clear how the explosives found their way to their residential area. But Adu Domfeh said the Regional Security Council has had an emergency meeting to brood over the issue.
