Minister ordered assult

A top military officer and member of the Western Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Air Commodore R. Awuku, on December 3, last year, allegedly slapped Mr. J.K. Duncan, Chairman of the Association of Aggrieved Compensates of Goldfields Ghana Limited, (AACGGL) on the orders of the Regional Minister, Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo.

The assault was considered by the association as intimidation and an attempt to frustrate Mr. Duncan, who had been at the forefront of the fight for better compensation from Goldfields Ghana Limited for members of the association.

According to the GHANAIAN TIMES, those allegations were contained in a letter of complaint dated December 7, 2002, addressed to the President.

Efforts by the paper to contact the Regional Minister on January 7, 2003 at his office proved futile.

His female Secretary said that he was out of the region and did not know when he would return.
