Mr Salifu Adam Braimah, Savannah Regional Minister, as part of his fight against illegal logging of rosewood, has impounded a truckload of rosewood at Chama, a village in the Central Gonja District.

The long truck with registration number AS 9995 - F, was carrying a 40-footer container, loaded with logs of rosewood and was about to leave the village when the Regional Minister arrived at the village on Thursday and impounded it.

The driver could not produce any document to support his activities.

His license was seized and he was ordered to transport the logs to the premises of the Central Gonja District at Buipe for further checks.

The Minister, since assuming office early this year, had waged war against illegal felling of rosewood in the Region and had ordered the closure of an illegal rosewood factory in the area.

Mr Adam Braimah promised to ruthlessly enforce government's ban on the felling and exportation of rosewood in the country to save the forest and protect the environment.
