Minister holds peace talks with rival Aplaku stool elders

Accra, Sept. 9, GNA - Mr Sampson Kweku Boafo, Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture, on Monday appealed to family members of the late Nii Okoso I, chief of Aplaku, to do away with their differences in order to ensure peace in the area. He said the area needed peace and tranquillity in order to develop. Mr Boafo made the appeal when he met with rival family members of the late Chief in Accra in a bid to settle their differences over the installation of a substantive successor. He recalled that his ministry received a petition from stool elders of Aplaku stating that Nii Tetteh Nartey, Aplaku Wulomo, who was made acting chief following the death of Nii Okoso, had failed to hand over to the new substantive chief. During the discussions, Nii Tetteh Nartey agreed that the new chief qualified to ascend the throne, but said the right procedure for nominating and confirming him was not followed by the king makers.
