The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, and the Service Chiefs have pledged their full cooperation and support to the newly appointed Minister for Defence, Honourable Gilbert Kenneth Adjei, as he assumes office at the Ministry of Defence on Monday, 17 August 2026.
The CDS was accompanied by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong; Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing; Chief of Staff at General Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai; and the Acting Chief of the Army Staff and General Officer Commanding, Northern Command, Brigadier General Franklyn Worlanyo Agbebo, during the Minister’s formal welcome at the Ministry
Honourable Adjei inspected a Guard of Honour mounted by personnel of the Ghana Navy to formally welcome him to the Ministry.
The CDS assured the Minister of the full cooperation and support of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), stressing the commitment of the Military High Command to working closely with the Ministry to advance Ghana’s defence and security interests.
Lieutenant General Agyapong also assured the Minister of the Military High Command’s support in realising the vision and mission of the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, particularly in strengthening national security, improving the welfare of personnel and enhancing the operational capabilities of the GAF.
He expressed confidence that the existing partnership between the Ministry and the Military High Command would be further strengthened to promote effective administration, professionalism and the continued transformation of the GAF.
On his part, Honourable Adjei thanked the GAF for the Guard of Honour and the warm reception accorded him. He described the GAF as one of the country’s most respected institutions, particularly for its discipline, professionalism and commitment to national defence.
He assured the Military High Command of his readiness to work closely with the Ministry and the GAF to advance the interests of the Armed Forces and the nation.
