Minister cuts sod for classroom block

Ngleshie Amanfro (GAR), Dec. 31, GNA - Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, on Friday asked all schools that wished to solicit assistance from Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to go through the right procedures and channels. The Minister said this when he cut the sod for the construction of a block of six classrooms for the Ngleshie Amanfro District Assembly Three and Four Primary School estimated at 300 million cedis. Mr Baah-Wiredu said the Government would continue to disburse funds from the GetFund according to the Law that established it. Ngleshie Amanfro is situated along the Kasoa-Mallam road in the Greater Accra Region.

A foreign-based philanthropist has donated 4,000 dollars towards the project, which is scheduled for completion within three months. Mr Baah-Wiredu, who also donated 250 bags of cement to a junior and senior secondary schools in the community, pledged to donate more cement and other logistics to help rehabilitate the schools in the area. He commended junior secondary schools in the Ga District for their improved academic performance in the last academic year and advised students to continue to work hard and to avoid drugs.

Mr Shaibu Ali, Assemblyman, thanked the Minister for taking personal interest in the development of the area by assisting the community to improve on its educational infrastructure. He appealed to the Minister to lobby Government to consider upgrading the Ngleshie Amanfro Senior Secondary School, the only government-assisted secondary school serving over 30 communities in the area, into a model school.

Mrs Victoria Opoku, Amansaman District Director of Education, urged members of the community to support the efforts of the Government and other philanthropists by willingly offering communal labour for the successful completion of projects.
