The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has moved to crack on commercial sex workers as part of measures to curb crimes being perpetrated by the locals with the aid of foreigners.

According to Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, many crimes in the Kumasi such as robberies and kidnapping are aided by foreigners illegally residing in the country.

“Our Intel has that a lot of these criminals are in the country as whores with collaboration from some Ghanaians to commit heinous crimes such as kidnapping”, the Minister revealed in an interview MyNewsGh.com monitored.

According to the REGSEC chairman, security agencies in the country will soon conduct swoops at hideouts of these criminals to ensure residents go about their daily activities devoid of criminal activities from these unscrupulous people.

“Every three months, we have decided as security to conduct swoops in some areas where these whores are because in Ghana. It is illegal to do commercial sex business”, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah told host Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.

The latest decision by the Minister follows the increasing cases of kidnappings in the Ashanti Region with the latest being the two Canadian nationals were abducted a month but were later rescued by security agencies.

Four of kidnappers who are all Nigerian nationals were also arrested after the standoff between them and the armed rescuing force.

They are believed to have had support from Ghanaians before perpetrating the crime according to police investigators.
