Mining in Amansie West Affecting Education - MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Amansie West constituency, Hon. Stephen Cobbinah Buor-Kakari, has observed that education in the district is very appalling since the schools are understaffed.

He attributed the fallen standard of education to students' attitude of focusing on the mining activities in the area from which they get quick money at the expense of their education.

In an interview with the Chronicle, the MP stressed that education is paramount in all human endeavours and urged the students to learn very hard toward their development.

As part of reviving the educational standard in the district, he said every year free vacation classes is organised for the students in the second cycle schools and appealed to university graduates from the district to come to the aid of education in the district.

According to him, 100 students will be selected from the three secondary schools for scholarship to enhance quality education in the district.

Buor-Karikari noted that the NPP government attaches much importance to education, thus compelling the government to establish model district secondary schools in the districts to enhance development.

The Member of Parliament (MP) assured fresh graduates and teacher trainees to come to the district since incentive packages await them and appealed to those from the district to come home and help the district develop.
