Mills' Health: Spio-Garbrah denies any link

Ekwow Spio Garbrah, a leading member of the opposition NDC, has in a statement expressed ?great disappointment at the dirty propaganda against him? in the matter of Professor J. E. A. Mills? health.

Dr Spio-Garbrah, one of three others who contested for the NDC top job, says he is not and cannot be a ?part of any conspiracy or group within the NDC that is plotting a coup against Professor Mills, or that is seeking another NDC Congress.? The former Communications Minister in the NDC administration has been linked directly and indirectly with raging media reports and discussions about the health status of the NDC Candidate.

Among others, some party officials have claimed that NDC MP, Michael Nyaunu who has called for the replacement of Professor Mills as the NDC?s 2008 Candidate, supported Dr. Spio-Garbrah in the primaries.

Earlier media reports had also suggested that one of the three aspirants was responsible for spreading false reports about Professor Mills? health. This has been followed by a claim by one Alhaji Bature that the MP?s action was ordered by Party founder, Jerry Rawlings.

According to the former Communications Minister it is disappointing that faceless individuals have yet again begun their dirty propaganda by linking him to any negative commentary that has to do with internal party issues.

Dr. Spio-Garbrah says he does not believe that ?a public, bitter power-struggle is the way for the NDC to strengthen itself because he is aware that the NDC has powerful opponents who will take advantage of current developments in the NDC to weaken the Party?s electoral chances.?

He also pleaded with all propagandists who are pandering to the interest of any particular group, forces or individuals to try to put the NDC?s interest first.

The statement recalled that after the NDC Congress of December 2006, Spio-Garbrah and the other aspirants publicly acknowledged Professor Mill?s victory and pledged to work with him for an NDC victory in December 2008.

Dr Spio-Garbrah who is currently Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization in London, sits on the boards of two of the world?s largest international telecom companies, and according to the statement, he is currently ?busy at work meeting political and telecom leaders in various parts of the world, from Asia to the Caribbean and Africa. He therefore has NO interest whatsoever in negatively affecting the successful prosecution of the campaign against the NPP in December 2008.?
