The Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Obed Akwa, has assured residents of Bondase in the Greater Accra Region that the military will do its best to provide them with potable drinking water.

Responding to a question from the Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Samuel Nartey George, at the Public Accounts Committee sitting, Lt. Gen. Obed Akwa said the military base at Bondase is contributing to the efficiency and professionalism of the Ghana Armed Forces.

“So the current status and international recognition given to the Ghana Armed Forces is large because you put that wonderful facility at our disposal,” he said.

The people of Bondase, a suburb of Accra, according to their MP, Samuel Nartey George, have not had water from the Ghana Water Company, therefore, the water situation is nothing to be proud of as a nation.

He said with a population of about 250 people, there are times when through his initiative he tries to get water tankers to supply the community with water but to no avail because the military was having operations at the time.

“Will the military consider extending water supply from the base to the community” he quizzed.

The Chief of Defence Staff, however, indicated that he was oblivious of the situation cited by the Member of Parliament.

“It is our desire to help so we have taken on board the comments that you have made and I want to assure you honourable that I will task my Chief of Army Staff and those who have responsibility for the security of Bondase to offer support to the community,” he noted.
