Metro Mass Transit service reaches U/E Region

Bolgatanga, May 19, GNA - The public transport system in the Upper East Region is set to witness a significant improvement with the arrival of Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus service.
Mr Abdulai Abukari, Traffic Instructor for MMT, has for the past three weeks organised intensive training course for 28 recruited drivers in Bolgatanga.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday that six out of an initial fleet of 10 buses allocated to the region would arrive in Bolgatanga next week.
"In fact, one of those buses is already here in town and is being used during our instruction sessions for the new drivers," he said. A cross-section of residents in Bolgatanga who commented on the new development in an interview with the GNA, hailed it as welcome news. "Considering the recent fuel price increases and the resultant transport fare hikes, the metro buses could not have come at a better time," said Mr Patrick Apuyinga, a 49-year-old civil servant. It is worth noting that during the People's Assembly Forum in the region last month, a significant number of participants in the districts raised questions as to when the Upper East would also begin to enjoy the Metro Mass Transit service.
