Accra, Oct. 10, GNA - The Methodist Church of Ghana on Sunday inducted into office Right Reverend Dr Kweku Asamoah-Okyere as the new Administrative Bishop.
Dr Asamoah-Okyere was appointed the Acting Administrative Bishop of the Methodist Church since October 2009 until his confirmation in August 2010 during the 44th Conference of the Methodist Church held in Cape Coast.
Delivering the sermon, the Most Reverend Prof. Emmanuel Kweku Asante, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, urged the new Bishop to be humble in the discharge of his duties. "You have been called by God for this service and you will need humility to appropriately discharge your duties," he said. He noted that no good thing in the world could be achieved without the assistance of God and urged all Christians to remain faithful to God in order to tap into His blessings.
According to him, no human being could have an encounter with God and remain the same since such divine encounters brought about great transformation. "Just as the Prophet Jeremiah had an encounter with God and saw how unworthy he was, so will all men never be the same after seeing the greatness of God," Most Rev. Asante said. He urged all Christians to be humble and lowly since pride was a negation adding that God would not do anything for those who felt they did not need His service.
The newly installed Administrative Bishop thanked the Church for the trust reposed in him and called for their total support in the discharge of his duties. He pledged to ensure that the Methodist Church of Ghana was devoid of internal wrangling and that it functioned as a whole body. He noted that the church had approved a strategic plan which when implemented would help uplift the spiritual wellbeing of the church. The Right Reverend Dr Kweku Asamoah-Okyere was born in 1948 at Adukrom Akuapim in the Eastern Region and is married with three children.
He was trained as a teacher in the 1970s at Wesley College, Kumasi, after which he worked as a teacher at Asante Bekwai until his call to enroll at the Trinity College from 1973 to 1977 where he showed keen interest and excelled in Christian Education. He has served the Methodist Church in various capacities until his confirmation as the Administrative Bishop in August 2010. The Right Rev. Asamoah-Okyere will serve a six year term starting from October 1, 2010.
