President John Dramani Mahama has expressed appreciation to 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu in the Adansi Akrofrom District for their role in recovering the bodies of eight victims from the military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
On behalf of the President, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, visited the community on Wednesday, August 27, to thank the residents and present a support package to them.
The helicopter crash, which occurred in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve, claimed the lives of eight officials, including the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. The officials were on official assignment at the time of the incident.

“As the President has asked me to say, we are here to thank the residents who helped us recover the bodies of our eight men. We have a plaque for all of you in honour of what you did,” Asiedu Nketiah said, according to a Citi Newsroom report on August 27, 2025.
The government also presented GH¢100,000 to the rescuers and GH¢20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council to support customary rites.
In addition, Asiedu Nketiah announced that all 13 individuals involved in the recovery exercise would be offered jobs suited to their skills.

President Mahama further assured the community that their roads would be fixed as part of efforts to improve local infrastructure.
