Meet the press held in Tamale

Tamale, Aug 31, GNA - Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, the Northern Regional Minister, has said the government had chalked a lot of successes within its short time in office especially in security, road construction, infrastructure development, agriculture, health and water.

He said there were many chieftaincy and land disputes that needed to be resolved and added 93There is relative calm in all the districts except isolated incidents."

Addressing journalists in Tamale under the 93Meet the Press" programme, Mr Mabengba said patrols by the security agencies on the highways had reduced armed robberies.

He appealed to the public to provide information to the police to flush criminals out of the region.

Touching on the road networks, the Minister said 81.90km of roads were constructed at the cost of GH¢2.84 million last year.

Mr. Mabengba said some projects were under construction at the cost of GH¢26,582,898.09 and gave the assurance that priority would be given to the school projects before school re-opens to admit fresh students in the Senior High Schools.

He said under the block farming programme, the region registered 15,722 farmers for the 2010 programme, adding that 6,455.hectare of rice grains, 5,818.0 maize grain, 823.2 hectares of soya beans and 207.6 hectares of sorghum had been cultivated.
