Ever walked past a photo studio, boutique, or even a small shop in your community and noticed an Akwaaba (welcome) frame hanging proudly at the entrance? These frames have become part of Ghana’s visual culture, greeting customers with warmth and style.
But have you ever paused to ask who is behind them? If not, then it’s time to meet Joseph Osae, the creative mind whose work has travelled from Ghana to communities across the world.
In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb’s Etsey Atisu, Osae stated that his journey began in 1998.
At the time, he was experimenting with printing flowers, until he had an inspiration: why not use human figures instead?
That concept birthed the first Akwaaba frame, and the rest is history.
Today, his frames are more than decorations; they are cultural symbols, blending artistry with Ghanaian hospitality.
Osae’s story is one of creativity, persistence, and vision, a reminder that even the simplest ideas can grow into something extraordinary.
His journey is as inspiring as the frames themselves, and it is one worth watching.
