Medical Officers explains regulations for food vendors

Accra, Oct. 15, GNA - Dr Nii Ayitey Coleman, Medical Officer of Health (MOH) of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has said MOH has drawn up a programme to sensitise laboratory technicians and health directors in the metropolis to ensure that health regulations and standards are complied with.

He said henceforth, all enquiries concerning food vendors and hoteliers as well as request for their medical examinations should be channelled through the Directors of Health in the six sub-metropolitan assemblies in Accra.

Dr Coleman made this known when he met health directors and laboratory technicians on Wednesday in Accra.

He reminded them that request for medical examination for food vendors is the prerogative of physicians and not laboratory technicians because the vendors had to go through medical history and physical examinations to ascertain whether they are fit or not. Dr Coleman said the objective of this critical process is to ensure that foods meant for human consumption are not contaminated and does not produce adverse health effects.
